Bio of Richard “Ricky” Skerritt BA, MSc, PhD (Hon.)
Dr. Ricky Skerritt (Rhodes Scholar) is a distinguished but humble Caribbean figure, business leader, and sports administrator, widely respected for his decades-long contributions to regional development. He currently serves as a member of the St. Kitts and Nevis Government’s Economic Advisory Council, and is the Principal Director at Skerritt & Associates, a consultancy firm focused on sustainable development and Investment promotion.
From 2019 to 2023, Skerritt served as President of Cricket West Indies (CWI), where he led significant financial and structural reforms, designed to calm and turn-around the inherited turbulent uncertainties which were facing CWI. He currently serves as Chairman of CWI’s Antigua based subsidiary company, Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) Inc., where he continues to lead at the pleasure of the CWI Board. He is a former Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) and has also served as Tourism Advisor to the Antigua & Barbuda Government.
Skerritt’s public service portfolio includes over a decade as Minister of Tourism, Sports,International Transport et al., for St. Kitts and Nevis, where he was instrumental in the transition of St. Kitts Sugar Industry to being more Tourism focused elevating the country’s Global Tourism profile. His pioneering leadership in travel protocol reforms, infrastructure development, and international airlift connectivity helped position the twin-island Federation as a premier Caribbean destination.
In July 2023, Skerritt was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Social Science degree by the University of Bolton (UK) in recognition of his outstanding contribution to sustainable tourism development. This honour reflects over 35 years of leadership across the public and private sectors in the Caribbean. Dr Skerritt continues to be a passionate advocate for Caribbean unity, sustainable economic growth, and good governance.
