Mr. Miguel Flemming: A Distinguished Leader in Agriculture and Marine Resources 

Born on June 12, 1989, in Old Road, St. Kitts, Mr. Miguel Flemming is a prominent public servant who currently holds the position of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources. From a young age, Mr. Flemming developed a deep interest in agriculture and marine resources, nurtured through his experiences working alongside his grandfather on the family farm. 

Mr. Flemming pursued his academic ambitions at the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan. There, he excelled academically, earning a bachelor’s degree in plant production in 2016 and receiving several awards for his academic achievements and leadership skills. His passion for agriculture extended into aquatic sciences, leading him to obtain a master’s degree in aquatic Diagnostics from the same university in 2018.  

Upon completing his studies, Mr. Flemming returned to St. Kitts and Nevis, where he embarked on a career in the public sector. He began by leading the Department of Agriculture Livestock Unit and managing Bayford’s Livestock Centre of Excellence. His leadership and technical expertise quickly became evident, and he rose through various roles of increasing responsibility within the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources. 

In 2022, Mr. Flemming was appointed as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, where he continues to demonstrate his exceptional leadership and strategic vision. He provides critical direction and policy guidance to promote the sustainable development of St. Kitts and Nevis’ agriculture, fisheries, marine resources, and cooperative sectors. 

Throughout his career, Mr. Flemming has received numerous accolades for his dedication to excellence and public service. He is widely respected for his extensive knowledge, professionalism, and commitment to his field. Beyond his official duties, Mr. Flemming is an active member of the Veterinary Board and Appeals Tribunal Board of Directors, contributing his expertise to these vital organizations. 

In his personal time, Mr. Flemming enjoys outdoor activities such as fishing and farming. He is also an avid researcher, continuously exploring new technologies and innovations within his field. Mr. Flemming’s journey from a young enthusiast on his grandfather’s farm to a leading figure in public service stands as a testament to his dedication and passion for agriculture and marine resources.
